Please take my hotel in Dresden on Nov 7-9

I booked a non-refundable hotel in Dresden but my plans have changed and I am hoping someone will take the rooms. The hotel is Aparthotels an der Frauenkirche %26quot;Münzgasse%26quot;. It has gotten excellent reviews and is located in the historical part of Dresden. I paid 55 euros per night for the double room. I%26#39;m willing to give it to you for half price. We can arrange for payment using PayPal and then I will change the name on the reservation.

I got my money back on a pre-paid non-refundable hotel once by disputing the charges through Visa. They agreed and they didn%26#39;t make me pay them (Visa). I wrote a formal letter so they would take it seriously.

I would not recommend lying to your Credit Card company. I use to work for a Credit Card company and doing this is illegal if you were in fact the person who authorized the charges. On top of that I think it is trip advisors policy to not allow members to encourage this type of behavior in these forums according to their %26quot;terms of use%26quot; . If you are authorized to transfer your reservation i think you should continue to search for a legal way out. If I had the time off I would buy the hotel from you. Good luck

I didn%26#39;t lie! I had to leave my reservation early and they wouldn%26#39;t make an exception. I told Visa that I had a family emergency and the hotel would not refund my unused days at the hotel. Visa agreed that the hotel was being unreasonable and that%26#39;s what happened. I am not a crook!

Peenemuende

My two boys and I are planning a trip to northern Germany at the end of March (2008) to see some of its history including the war museum at Peenemuende (V2 Rocket) site north of Berlin. Does anyone have information on hotels or other interesting attractions in that area? We will be heading north from Dresden in a rental car so if there are points of interest someone knows of as we head up or back down on our way into Czech please let me know. Thanks, Martin

Although i have not been that far east along the Baltic there are a few web sites that may be of interest

For maps have a look at www.viamichelin.com and they also list local attractions and hotels

For hotels have a look at www.hotel.de and look for the link to English

Can you help me find someone who lived/lives in Straubing?

While my husband was looking through a box of %26quot;stuff%26quot; -- most of it many years old! -- he found a photograph he took of a family who was in California on vacation. He can%26#39;t remember where he took the picture -- he thinks it was in San Francisco, but it could have been Knotts%26#39; Berry Farm. The family is dressed in western wear of the 1880%26#39;s period, gathered around a table; the set looks like a saloon.

My husband also took a picture of this family (I%26#39;m sure there was a professional photograph as well) and agreed to send it to them. The address is very incomplete, only Josef Kroenner, Theresien Platz 844 Straubing, Germany.

However long ago this photograph was taken, we%26#39;d still like to get it to Mr. Kroenner, but I hate to send it off without making sure that the address is correct.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

There is a Josef Kroenner Bakery on Theresienplatz in Straubing. I got it by doing a Yahoo search on Yahoo.de.

Hi Sue

I didn%26#39;t send the info to your email address but to your trip advisor account ;-) Just have a look at %26#39;My Trip Advisor%26#39; and then go to %26#39;Messages%26#39;. You should find my message there.

But acutally I gave you the same info as Gary + the info that the postal codes in Germany changed a couple of years ago. 8440 was the old postal code for Straubing, 94315 is the new one so I guess the Josef Kroenner with the bakery is the family you are looking for.

Best regards,

Alex

MK, there are many many options available. I generally go for the more exotic ones. So here are some.

Blue Nile, an Ethiopian restaurant at Templehofer 6 near Mockernbrucke U-Bahn is worth a visit - try the special Honnigwein! There%26#39;s a decent Iranian one on Reinhardstrasse in Mitte district near Oranienburger Str S-Bahn. (There%26#39;s also a Thai restaurant beside the same metro stop.) In fact the whole zone between the metros Oranienburger Tor and Oranienburger Str has lots of different options - Cuban, Indian, Singapore etc. Be a bit careful in the lower part of Oranienburger Str though (heading towards Hackesher Markt) It has really good bars but is also a red light area and thus a bit seedy after dark.

We have been to the Kartoffelkeller at Albrechtstrasse and eaten very well and not too expensive there. Of course depends on what you choose. You could check the menu before deciding, there are at least 4 other restaurants right next to it.

For example a nice Portuguese with lovely fresh fish offers.

Frankfurt HBF train station

Can someone tell me if the station has shower and baggage facilities?

Also, if the station has a safe area to spend a few hours at night as it seems pointless getting a hotel room for 3 to 4 hours.

And finally, if I want to see a place or two between 8 and 10am, are there any sights you would advice which are central?

I would definitely NOT spend a night at Frankfurt Hbf! It is one of the most criminal areas in all Germany.

What weekday would you need to stay over? Since there is no curview in Germany several bars, pubs or nightclubes will be open all night.

There are plenty of lockers in all sizes. Depending on the size of the box it%26#39;s between €2 and €4 for up to 72 hours.

There are several sights close by. It%26#39;s especially pleasant and pretty to walk along the river%26#39;s embankment in the early morning as you can watch the city wake up and see plenty of sights at the same time.

Let us know a little bit more about yourself, your interests, the weekday you%26#39;re traveling etc. and us locals will help you with more information and some tips...

Andreas,

I%26#39;d be interested in any thoughts you had about a late arrival to the Frankfurt Main station. Undecided on our flight in to Frankfurt or out of Frankfurt but one possibility has us taking a click/rail fare from sbb.com but it arrives at 11:30pm. We%26#39;d be spending 2-3 days in Rhine/Bacharach area before flying out of Frankfurt. From your post sounds like not a good idea to hang around the station until morning.

If you%26#39;re a group of people or so you%26#39;re fine. There are a few fast food restaurants at the airport but I think they close during the night. There is a pretty decent hotel called Steigenberger Metropolitain just across from the hotel. You might be able to spend the night at their bar area.

The problem with the Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof area is that unfortunately it%26#39;s directly connected with the red light district where the mafias from Moldova, the Ukraine, Russia, Italy and other countries protect their interests. Plus at night there are plenty of junkies who need to make some quick and easy money... Security is very high but still it just isn%26#39;t very pleasant there at night.
